Skin peeling

Skin peeling

Patient had this peeling skin on her foot with sneezing bouts. Allegra or any anti histaminics would make skin worse.

Epstein barr nosode and senega were given. There was drastic change seen within a week.

Rationale : Whenever any patient has sneezing or allergy symotoms and antihistamine makes sneezing better but causes another condition to worsen the cause is a chronic viral infection. Assuming this was chronic epstein barr infection, epstein barr nosode was started.

Chronic epstein barr infections infect mast cell, these mast cell release histamines to kill off the virus infecting them. Thus antihistaminics cause worsening.

Hearing loss

Hearing loss

A 57 year old male patient came with the chief complaint of hearing loss since 7 to 8 years. Past history included gurgling like sound in his ears from time to time along with history of recurrent ear infections in childhood and early adulthood.

Other complaints included chronic gastritis with H. Pylori infection. His H. Pylori was fully treated but GERD persisted. 

He worked in plantations and hence he was put on a full deworming course in sequential manner (Mebendazole, levamisole and ivermectin). 

He was also put on oral cytokine drops of Trichostatin A as the report showed presence of Epstien barr virus (EBV) and Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgG levels were very high. This improved the hearing slightly. 

The GERD and fatty liver issues made me give him homeopathic remedy Nux Vomica. It was initially started with OD dosing which showed mild hearing improvement, then as his gastric symptoms and hearing started improving the dose was increased to BD and then to TDS.  

Note : Usually when choosing a homeopathic remedy do look for the triad match and modalities. However when a characteristic symptom of any remedy is present such as in nux vomica where patient gets otitis media or has stage 3 retinopathy with micro bleeds or night blindness we can use the drug without anything else matching. 

Other examples include Ignatia for grief and in Nat Mur lack of feeling better on consolation or low sodium.

Anxiety due to E.Coli

Anxiety due to E.coli

A 52 yr old man who is an avid badminton player with chronic low BP (100/60 mm Hg) came in with extreme anxiety and was very fidgety. He also complained of bad insomnia. No bowel or bladder issues. No prevalence to hot or cold but had an innate fear of dying. Blood tests revealed very high uric acid levels. 

Patient was started on homeopathic remedy E.coli. He was also given oral cytokines gout combo as he did have some tarsometatarsal pain on and off along with Vitamin D.

After 1 week the patient was calm, and was able to sleep for more than 5 hrs without waking up in the middle. There is no more trembling and the patient showed no signs of being fearful.

Note: The infection of E. Coli can cause neural inflammation and hence uric acid goes up. Uric acid serves as an antioxidant for the nerves. The killing of the E. coli helped reduce the anxiety.
